Professor Asif Ahmed
Professor Asif Ahmed is a world-renowned British biomedical scientist who founded the Aston Medical School in 2014, which was the first medical school to be established in the city of Birmingham, England, after a period of 200 years. Birmingham is the only city in the UK to have two medical schools outside London.
Professor Ahmed has followed in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather Sir Ali Imam KCSI, who promoted social mobility as the Chief Minister of the princely state of Hyderabad in British India and was a law member in the Imperial Legislative Council.
Curing Preeclampsia
Professor Ahmed is now on a mission to make preeclampsia history within this decade. MirZyme Therapeutics is an early-stage miRNA biopharmaceutical company developing drugs with companion diagnostics to prevent preeclampsia, a life-threatening condition in pregnancy, which affects mother and the unborn child.
Preeclampsia affects 1 in 12 of 130 million pregnancies each year and the annual cost burden is over USD 100 billion.
MirZyme is bringing together experienced experts from the field of science, business and governments to successfully translate Professor Ahmed’s discoveries to benefit patients by identifying new drug targets. MirZyme has several global patents granted.
